FIRENZE AND THE BARGELLO

Sunday, November 1, All Saints' Day, 10 pm

Here in Florence, the state museums are free to everyone on the first Sunday of each month. Being a holiday, we weren't sure if any would be open. Well, this is a tourist town after all. One of our favorite little museums is The Bargello and it holds some the 'old friends' that we come here to see.

We have covered most of this in earlier blogs, but since our friend, Jean Glassberg, was in Florence and did not make to this museum, we'll repeat some things.

Sunny day, but cool. Late breakfast...as is becoming our norm...and off. Karin has developed something of a head cold and we are hoping it doesn't turn into something more serious. We are keeping a close eye on her. But she was up and off with us for today.

You would think with the museum being free, and this being a holiday, that the place would be mobbed. But as you'll see, it wasn't. We had a great time leisurely wandering through the exhibits. After which, we had a late lunch in an outdoor cafe.

There are two gelato shops that we want to try. Both have been written up as the 'best in Florence.' We prefer to make our own decision. So after lunch we walked to Il Procopio that is recommended by TripAdvisor. Our analysis:  very good. But not great. Still we enjoyed sitting in the sun and eating Italian gelato.

Then home for quiet time and a long nap.

This evening, Karin decided to stay in and pamper herself. Stew and I headed to I Ghibellini for a light dinner. We had eaten there years ago on our first visit to Florence and did not like it. A new friend from the Udall track, Jose, recommended we try again. Nice time. Food was good, but nothing special. At least it was far, far better than our first experience.

Home now and time to write this up. Enjoy!
